Salary:
Starting salary is between $48,114 and $62,640 per year depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. For state employees, pay will be based on the rules that apply to compensation upon transfer, reinstatement or voluntary demotion transactions; beginning pay will not be less than the minimum of the pay range. A six-month probationary period is required. This position is in Pay Schedule/Range 07-02. This position is represented by Fiscal and Staff Services bargaining unit.

Job Duties:   

Under the general direction of the agency’s General Counsel, this position is responsible for complex investigation, enforcement and policy activities relating to senior citizen life and annuity insurance issues (“Senior Market”).  The incumbent will conduct legal research and analysis, investigation and enforcement activities relating to insurance products and marketing activities that either are designed for or target the senior population.  Duties include working with National Association of Securities Dealers, Securities Exchange Commission, other state insurance departments, the Department of Financial Institutions, state security regulators, and other regulatory, law enforcement, and non-profit organizations in a cooperative effort to prevent, or detect and conduct enforcement actions relating to illegal insurance practices targeting the Senior Market.  Duties also include participation in policy analysis and preventative activities and development of legislation and rules.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

Effective legal research, analysis and writing skills; familiarity with law relating to administrative enforcement actions, including civil procedure, rules of evidence, and constitutional law; knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing the Senior Market, including contract and insurance law; familiarity with life and annuity products directed to the senior market; knowledge of interviewing and investigation processes and techniques; and effective written and oral communications skills.
