Salary:
Starting salary is between $63,321 and $67,209 per year (full-time) based on prior nursing experience in the designated discipline. Candidates who are new to state service are eligible for a sign-on bonus of $1000. NOTE: Nurse Clinician 3s employed at MMHI will receive an additional $1.00 per hour add-on for all hours worked. This position is in pay schedule 11, range 41. A six-month probationary period is required.

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI), Madison (Dane County) is continuously accepting applications for these positions. Job Duties:   

The Nurse Clinician 3 assists the Unit Manager with overall unit management by providing leadership and consultation to nursing personnel on clinical/program areas to meet identified needs of the unit. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, this position will assess, plan and evaluate nursing care for more complex patient cases. The Nurse Clinician 3 will also teach and verify competency of patients, families, and staff, deliver and document individual care as outlined in the patient’s treatment/learning plan, and provide consultation to community agencies on treatment approaches and mental health concepts.

Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

Knowledge of infection control standards; patient confidentiality and privacy; and effective conflict-resolution methods. Ability to assess/differentiate biological/medical and psychiatric health issues and apply progressive psychiatric nursing concepts; lead/direct and train staff using effective written and oral communications skills.
